Bridging Worlds through Creativity

Sunny Days

Today’s the Day!

I’ve decided to participate in July 2018 World Watercolor Month – 31 watercolors in 31 days. I have found it extremely difficult to maintain a daily practice of painting, though as of today, I’ve managed to keep up a daily sketchbook for two weeks…so maybe it’s possible. Fingers crossed…and preparations were needed.

Surfing around on Angela Fehr’s Watercolor Facebook page, I read someone’s post who decided to precut her 20 x 30 sheet into twenty separate ready-to-paint papers. What a novel idea! So, since I already have a few precut sheets, I used a template and parceled off a few different formats: 4 squares, 3 horizontals, etc. Having these ready ought to help sidestep procrastination each morning.

While we the artists can choose any subject matter at all, the organizers provided a list of prompts, which can be helpful in terms of narrowing one’s focus. I certainly need external focus and boundaries – there are so many options out there!

Day 1 Prompt: Sunny Days. Mind you, one image is all that is needed for a day, but once I got rolling, it was easy to produce a few, four to be precise. For today’s images, I used Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Violet, and Transparent Yellow, on Arches 140 lb. cold press. Another tip from another artist…work with a limited palette for a while to really get used to how the colors interact with each other.
